  CHARDEP -ANIMAL WELFARE Growth
Animal Welfare

CHARDEP works with the Veterinary Department to implement programmes for animal welfare. Importantly, the problem of stray dogs is attended to. Stray dogs are a growing menace in the district as in other parts of India. Their population is rapidly increasing due to the fact that destroying them has been made illegal. Albeit humane, this has given rise to a number of problems such as people being bitten by dogs, pet dogs being attacked as well as causing road accidents.

CHARDEP also enrolls the participation of animal lovers and dog owners who volunteer their services during programmes undertaken by the organization.

  Stray Dog Sterilisation Programme

The strategy employed to check the number of stray dogs is sterilization. Dogs are neutered and bitches are spayed to prevent them from breeding. This is also beneficial to the dogs themselves as they are now less susceptible to disease and malnutrition.

Anti-Rabies Vaccination

Rabies is a serious hazard caused by stray dogs, especially in summer months when the disease reaches epidemic proportions among the dogs. Death results when a bite by an infected dog is not treated properly. Hence, stray dogs are rounded up and vaccinated against rabies.
