CHARDEP -CULTURAL TROUPE

CHARDEP has a well trained team for conducting theme based cultural programmes, comprising 20 artistes who are exponents in various performing arts, such as classical and folk dance, song, musical instruments, mimicry, street theatre and short plays and comic skits. The team routinely conducts programmes throughout Kanyakumari district. Noteworthy among the teams’s programmes are the following.

UNDP – Disaster Preparedness Culturals

The team supported the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s efforts to create disaster preparedness by conducting programmes in disaster prone areas in the district.

CHICKUNGUNIYA AWARENESS

When Chickunguniya disease was reaching epidemic proportions in the district, CHARDEP on its own initiative launched a massive awareness creation programme, utilizing the cultural troupe. All rural areas in the district were covered, teaching people how to prevent infection and how to care for infected persons.

NEHRU YUVA KENDRA – RED RIBBON EXPRESS

When the Red Ribbon Express, a train that was used for HIV/AIDS Awareness by NACO visited Kanyakumari district, the cultural team worked with the Nehru Yuva Kendra for creating publicity for the train as well as for HIV/AIDS Awareness.

ADRA INDIA – FOR TB CONTROL

The Adventist Relief Agency (ADRA India) works in Kanyakumari District for eradication of Tuberculosis. The strategy being deployed by them is the Directly Observed Treatment System (DOTS). To create awareness and to ensure adherence to treatment, CHARDEP’s cultural troupe regularly conducts awareness programmes on behalf of ADRA India in rural areas throughout Kanyakumari district.
